Moonlight gives back.

Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day

Who knew? Back in the mid-1960's, right here in Rochester, a mother of six named Florence Rappaport decided she needed to do something fun to break up the winter for her kids. She invented "Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day" as the first Saturday of February. In the forty plus years since the holiday's inception, word has spread literally around the globe and it is now celebrated as far away as Australia, Israel, China and India.

In honor of Mrs. Rappaport's memory and to recognize her contribution to "putting Rochester on the map", each year we host our annual Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Charity Fundraiser on the first Saturday in February. We donate 100% of the profits from each year’s event to a local charity that supports children in our community. Past recipients have included the Make A Wish Foundation of Western NY, the YWCA, Golisano Children’s Hospital, and Holy Childhood.

So come on, Rochester! We all need a break from the winter weather, your kids will think you are the coolest parents ever for letting them eat ice cream for breakfast, and you'll be helping us do our small part to help local charitable organizations support our community’s most precious resource – our children.
